Using metaphor to describe, actualize and represent some problem is an excellent way to do your change work at an abstracted or higher logical level than the problem space. NLP and recovery from Porn and Sex Addiction

The vast majority of porn and sex addicts do not seek out NLP intervention on their own. Why? What if there were a method that did not fight against sexual nature, but instead harnessed and redirected it in order to use those same processes that pulled one into addiction to get out? This article presents one proven path to recovery from porn and sexual addiction that is anonymous and effective, and actually makes one feel better as one progresses.

Anonymous Online Help and NLP Make Recovery From Porn and Sex Addiction Permanent

Recent studies reveal that every second: 30,000 people are viewing porn online, $3,000 is being spent on online porn, 300 online searches are occurring, and very 39 minutes a new porn flick is produced. 30% of companies have reported terminating employees for inappropriate internet use. 10% of all Americans admit to having an internet sexual addiction. If you are reading this right now, it's likely that you or someone very close is devastated by a porn or sex addiction that until now has been too tenacious to defeat on one's own. I sincerely congratulate you on taking the time to read this, and know this article can provide ideas and information to illuminate a way toward permanent relief.

An addiction is a dependency on a substance that interferes with normal functioning, and addiction to pornography and sex is a whopper. In future articles, you will learn that pornography and sexual addictions are a form of substance abuse, and are more powerful than alcohol and many drugs. This article will focus on a proven path toward recovery.

The vast majority of porn and sex addicts do not seek out NLP intervention on their own. Why? Because even when they realize the need help, taking the first step out of the darkness of anonymity and secrecy to face the problem is extremely difficult. Porn addiction is all around us, affects nearly every family, yet it is very difficult to talk about.

There's no ignoring that the stigma runs very deep. Additionally, a "successful" addict will also have constructed layers upon layers of deception and excuses behind that fake smile, most of them unconscious, and all of them designed to keep the secrecy and addiction alive. The addiction is a carefully constructed house of cards, some years in the making. The most common and devastating deception for the addict is that old story of "this is the last time". 500 episodes later, the addictive mind still acts as though this were true.

When finally caught, or when feelings of guilt reach a certain threshold, some few may seek help through their church, most of which actively battle pornography on many fronts, and offer methods based on prayer, repentance and abstinence. Often there are undercurrents of guilt and spiritual punishment which can actually strengthen the obsessive/compulsive cycle that fuel the addiction. As that cycle continues to deepen, many spiritual, sensitive and intelligent addicts deaden socially, and far too many seriously consider suicide.

Does any of this sound familiar?

For the individual who wants a way out, what if there were a method that did not fight against sexual nature, but instead harnessed and redirected it in order to use those same processes that pulled us into addiction to get us out? This article presents one proven path to recovery from porn and sexual addiction that is anonymous and effective, and actually makes one feel better as one progresses. These are:

  • Anonymous Online Deprogramming/Reprogramming
  • Qualified Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Coaching
Anonymous Online Deprogramming/Reprogramming is an educative process the addictive mind undergoes online, while it learns how and why the addiction formed in the first place, and how to use those same natural means to get out of it. It also challenges the addictive mind to restructure itself while it connects with other real humans, in the real world, in real time. The addictive mind will learn to face fears, urges and cravings, replace them automatically with greater meanings, and use natural sexual energy to slingshot them towards those goals in life that have been so elusive. Sound impossible? It's not. Sound hard? Well, with the right program, it requires about as much discipline and practice as it would to pick up a guitar and learn 3 chords, enabling the student to then play great music, and doesn't that feel great?

Anonymous Online Deprogramming/Reprogramming can also be extended by special invitation to those who play a part in the journey toward recovery. Inviting a spouse, a parent or clergy into this support role prepares a base for common understanding and incredible acceptance.

Qualified Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Coaching is not therapy. (The addict is not broken, the maps of reality held in the addictive mind are). It is vitally important to select a coach who specializes in porn and sex addiction recovery and personal excellence. It is a special skill to challenge the addictive mind and create new frames of reality that make change from the old to the new ways natural and easy. These specialists do not require any of the gory details to be effective. NLP focuses intensely on the how, not the what, the when, the who or the why.

A skilled NLP coach can greatly accelerate and strengthen recovery efforts, and help the former addictive mind realize that better life. A complete recovery is not when the addictive mind has simply stopped doing the old behaviors, it is when the new mind manifests excellence in its place.

I strongly suggest that the above tools be utilized in the order presented above. In other words, start with Anonymous Online Deprogramming/Reprogramming, and then graduate to an NLP Coach.

By the time the former addictive mind has completed the online program, it is committed, conditioned and will often have overcome the addiction completely, and so any NLP work can focus on generative, rather than remedial interventions. Here is where the fun really begins!

I invite the reader to search your heart of hearts, and ask if now is the time to explore the possibility of reclaiming your life through Anonymous Online Deprogramming/Reprogramming, Qualified Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Coaching.

Craig Pinegar an NLP coach and teacher, a supply chain systems architect, a husband, and a father of four, using the internet and local study groups as venues for helping people get introduced to NLP, and to make it their own, through practicing NLP patterns in the real world, with real people, in real time, and for free.

As in sports and music, NLP is an art form, and while it may matter who you study with, but the practice and well you perform are what really matter. NLP is done from the heart, not the head. To do NLP well, you need to be in the zone, and I can help you get there.
Together, we can use NLP tools to change the world from the inside out, and bottom up.

NLP and treating addictions

NLP has become almost impossible not to notice in todays culture. NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Some believe that NLP is a new kind of weapon for army and secret services. Others would think of it as a way to “program” a person to do certain things which is to manipulate the Subconscious. However, most people understand NLP in a different way. Others blame all their illogical behavior on illicit ways of NLP use in daily life (talk about conspiracy theory!).

What is NLP?

NLP is a new popular approach in psychotherapy. It is a tool used by a therapist in the process of his or her work. If this tool is used by a true master it can create masterpieces. One can successfully treat allergies, phobias, and different kind of addictions with the help of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. This technique integrates methods of verbal and non-verbal communication. As a result, the understanding of the world’s concept changes; known limitations of human capacity can be overcome; a human is taught to use his or her own inner resources and reserves.

How It Started

NLP as a science goes back to the 1970s when Richard Bandler and John Grinder summed up and organized their knowledge and experience in linguistics and in psychology. They presented their ideas in the book “The Structure of Magic” (2 volumes). NLP has been developing as a separate discipline ever since, though some of the critics deny the existence of its scientific ground.

NLP Use

Scientific or not, this approach has been widely used in many fields starting with patients’ treatment and ending with sales, management coaching, sports, and business communication.
Still, the main field of NLP application remains psychotherapy. NLP techniques have it as their aim to reveal hidden resources of the person and direct them towards solving the problem.

NLP Concept

NLP method can be defined as a simple yet a very clear statement: we are the message we send. The therapist’s aim is to use the way a person thinks and the way a person speaks to provide him or her with a new mindset. There are a number of positive statements that are used in the process.
Some of them are:

  • the Universe has a lot of resources that can be used to solve your problems;
  • whatever we perceive is highly subjective;
  • there are no failures or winnings, only positive and negative feedback;
  • from all the behavior patterns a person will most probably use the most appropriate one;
  • etc.
The idea is that our reactions are defined by an individual “program”, a number of actions that we use as a pattern for a particular situation. Sometimes, as a result of a shock, a tragic incident, or some unusual experience, this connection of reaction and pattern is changing. The good and the usual turns into the bad and the unpredictable. In this case NLP can be the method to re-establish this connection. It can be a creation of a new pattern, or getting back to the old one. The “new” negative reaction should be changed into a positive one.

This is the way to treat different issues, including drug, alcohol, and other types of addictions. For example, the reaction of euphoria after the drug use can be changed into the reaction of disgust; the wish to take drugs can be replaced with the wish to throw it away.

Of course, it is a long process to go through; weeks (sometimes months) to create a bond between the therapist and the patient; to earn the patient’s trust, and then reach out to the subconscious resources of the patient to help him heal himself.

While some people remain incredulous when it comes to the NLP, many thank this approach because it changed their life. It does not really matter how controversial NLP is claimed to be. As long as it helps people they would not care about the scientific ground. Help is help wherever it comes from.

NLP for Beginners 2: the WHYs and HOWs

Fields of Application
NLP can be used in many different fields nowadays.

Psychology and Psychiatry
NLP offers unrivalled opportunities. It is a conceptual strategy which involves effective communication and aims at an actual result. The results can be achieved fast and painless for a patient. It can be used to treat allergies, phobias, and different kinds of addiction. For example, in some cases it allows to get rid of the patient’s phobia in 15 minutes. Something which seemed impossible before.
Personal challenges can fall into this category, too. Lack of confidence, fears, even weight loss can be successfully treated using NLP techniques.

Education
Some studies proved that with the help of NLP it is possible to develop students’ abilities more effectively without creating negative emotions that so often go along with the process of studying. Even correct spelling can be taught with the use of Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

Business
Business is the field where NLP is practiced on a large scale. Advertisement, staff recruiting, negotiation processes – these are only a few areas where NLP theory is applied successfully. One of the actively used NLP domains is identification of objectives and strategies for their implementation. Another NLP aspect in the business area relates to keeping yourself and your staff fit, maintaining a positive attitude leading to a high job performance level.

Personal Growth and Creativity
Neuro-Linguistic Programming gives people opportunities; a great number of opportunities that can enhance your creativity. Self-cultivation encourages inspiration. You figure out what you want, why you want this and if you really want this. When you learn to understand yourself, to control yourself, to open yourself up to the world, you will only gain more strength and be able to take advantage of your own talents. With the use of NLP you don’t depend on anything or anyone. Not on people, not on inspiration. You are in control of yourself. And then you are the creator.

Some people call NLP techniques controversial. But even they can’t deny the fact that these techniques work. They make someone’s life better. They help someone. They do it today. They are doing it right now.

People are often scared of something they do not understand. NLP might be a little difficult to grasp. But if we give it a try, we will notice that our fears are unreasonable. NLP is not evil. Like many things in life it depends upon who is using it.

NLP for Beginners 1: the WHYs and HOWs

What is NLP?
NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. It sounds very enigmatic, yet there is nothing mysterious about NLP. It is a mix of neurology, systems theory, and structural linguistics which results in an effective communication method.

When?
NLP is relatively young. Its history began at the University of California, Santa Cruz in the early 1970s. Scientists studied the methods of work used by psychiatrists. The results of these studies were published in 1975 in The Structure of Magic. Volume I followed by The Structure of Magic. Volume II in 1976.

Who?
Richard Bandler and John Grinder, a student and a professor, are the authors of The Structure of Magic books. They combined their knowledge and experience in two absolutely different fields and created a new discipline, known today as NLP. There is another group of people who officially are considered to be co-founders of the theory. Their names are Leslie Cameron, Judith DeLozier, Robert Dilts, and David Gordon.

Why?
It began within the frames of psychotherapy. While studying therapy sessions, Bandler and Grinder found some regularity which they generalized into models. They considered the use of particular linguistic patterns to be beneficial in patients’ treatment. Especially appealing to them was the idea that these patterns can be taught.

Main Motto
If at least one person in the world can do it, then it is possible to teach everyone else!

NLP History 8 - 21st century

By the end of 2000 some sort of rapprochement between Bandler and Grinder was achieved when the parties entered a release wherein they inter alia agreed that "they are the co-creators and co-founders of the technology of Neuro-linguistic Programming. Drs. Grinder and Bandler recognize the efforts and contributions of each other in the creation and initial development of NLP." In the same document, "Dr. John Grinder and Dr. Richard Bandler mutually agree to refrain from disparaging each other's efforts, in any fashion, concerning their respective involvement in the field of NeuroLinguistic Programming." ("Release" reproduced as Appendix A of Whispering in the Wind by Grinder and Bostic St Clair (2001)).

In addition, national regulatory and certification bodies have begun to be founded, notably in the UK, with credentials or standing within psychological and psychotherapy association bodies.

Trademark and IP claims settled, it is a possibility that a more regular platform for the future development of NLP as an ongoing field of endeavour may come into being.

NLP History 7 - buzz

A disquieting direction became obvious in the 1990s when, partly due to the legally-driven fragmentation of NLP practice, and partly due to lack of a defining and regulating structure to oversee the rapidly growing field, it seemed for a time that NLP could be (and was) promoted as the "latest thing", a panacea, or universal miracle solution. Dubious models and practices burgeoned, in parallel with bona fide. For a number of these new practices, profit, marketability or New Age appeal proved a stronger motive than realism or ethics.

Training too became fragmented. A plethora of trainers, some renowned, some New Age and charismatic, and some focussed upon niches, emerged, each with their own competing ideas of what training and standards were needed to become a "practitioner". As a result, today there is a range of in duration, quality and credibility of different practitioner training programmes.

In this respect, Platt (2001) comments critically that NLP needs to temper its claims, and accept it has limits on its effectiveness:

"Does that make NLP bogus? No, it does not. But the research and the findings of the investigators certainly make it clear that NLP cannot help all people in all situations, which is frequently what is claimed and what practioners assert... The immoderate claims that are made for NLP might be viewed a little more critically when viewed against this background."

Likewise the Irish National Center for Guidance in Education's Guidance Counsellor's Handbook (current as of 2005) includes the following caveat about excessive claims made by some trainers:

"Unfortunately, NLP has a history of so-called NLP Practitioners overstating the level of their competence, and of their training."
